A House Of Prayer At The Valley Of Mount St. Thomas..
Mount Carmel Cloistered Convent in Malayattoor, the first one in Syro-Malabar Rite, came into existence due to the desire, efforts and prayers of many priests and religious . The desire to establish a Convent of the Discalced Carmelite Nuns has been long-cherished by the O.C.D. Malabar Province, following the Syro-Malabar Rite. When this wish was combined with that of His Beatitude, Cardinal Varkey Vithayathil, the second Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church, the authorities of the Order were convinced of the clear revelation of God's will. After prayerful deliberations and evaluations, the then O.C.D. Superior General Very Rev. Fr. Louis (Fr. Louis Aristegui Gamboa) expressed his support for the establishment of the convent and on December 23, 2007 permission was granted from Rome to begin the work of the convent.
Being the first Monastery of the Discalced Carmelite Nuns in the Syro-Malabar Church, the authorities began an inquiry by inviting nuns of Syro-Malabar tradition from existing monasteries in India for membership. As a result, 4 Sisters from the Carmels of Eramalloor, Thiruvalla, Trivandrum and Manglore came forward and reached in the relative's house of Cardinal Mar Varkey Vithayathil on July 12,2008.

On the solemn feast of our Lady of Mount Carmel, they began an experimental life while waiting for the convent to be built. On November 9, 2008 the feast day of St Edith Stein, foundation stone was laid down by Cardinal Mar Varkey Vithayathil. The construction works were soon completed and the sisters moved to the new building on February 21, 2009. By that time, two Solemnly Professed Sisters from Mysore and Orissa Carmels and two Novices from Trivandram were joined by the group of Vennala. On July 16, 2010, the monastery was canonically erected.
God blessed the little dovecote of St Teresa, and the vocation flowed to the new Carmel. Thus a second convent was made in the diocese of Thamarasserry.
