St. Teresa of Avila St. John of the Cross

St. Teresa stands out as the only woman in the history of the Church to reform an order of men, emphasizing a life centered on prayer. The ultimate goal of a Discalced Carmelite is to love Christ and achieve the deepest union with Him. Throughout her life, St. founded 17 convents and initiated men's monasteries to support the sisters in their sacramental journey (OCD father).
Now the presence of daughters of St. Teresa, one of the largest women contemplatives, can be found in the world around 890 monasteries spread over 98 countries.
St. Elizabeth of the Trinity

Welcome to the Mount Carmel Cloistered Convent in Malayattoor, a sacred house of prayer born from the heartfelt desires and prayers of many dedicated priests and religious. The vision to establish a Monastery of the Discalced Carmelite Nuns within the Syro-Malabar Church has been a cherished aspiration of the O.C.D. priests of the Malabar Province. With the support of Cardinal Mar Varkey Vithayathil, the second Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church, this dream was recognized as a clear revelation of God's will. After thoughtful deliberation, the O.C.D. Father General, Very Rev. Fr. Louis, granted his support, leading to the official permission from Rome on December 23, 2007, to commence the monastery's establishment.
